Hi Chris. Tried this but still no go. I'm trying both methods, or what I
understand to be both methods, that is, using the alt key with the slash,
period, comma, etc, and also using up and down arrows in the main Winamp
window. The option you mentioned was set to Microsoft sound mapper or
something like that, so I arrowed down to Sounblaster live, tabbed to ok and
then to close, so I think I did it correctly. Any further ideas? Or do I
have to do what I've been thinking I should do for ages, bite the bullet and
get a hardware synth? Although I don't think that would help much in this
case, because presumably if I can't control the volume in winamp it would be
using the main Windows volume control, so hardware speech wouldn't be much
use. Sorry, I'm rambling, but it's late here and the brain, which doesn't
function too well under normal circumstances, is trying to tell me it's time
