OK, so you're definitely getting a stereo pin opened. What apps are you using
to record? I ask because it may make a difference what API the app is using
(for example, there's no way to open a mono stream in WASAPI on a device that
only supports stereo.)

The device supports 2-channel (stereo) recording at the usual range of sampling
rates, with 16-bit or 24-bit resolution, with the default format set to
2-channel, 24-bit, 48kHz. The same thing happens when I set the default to
16-bit.

I've also noticed the same thing with the inbuilt HD sound port on the
motherboard - when an application records in a mono format, only the left
channel is recorded, not (L+R)/2 which you'd normally expect and which happens
on XP.

I've just noticed in Windows 7 that when an application opens a stereo capture
endpoint in mono, it only receives the left channel instead of the expected L+R
mix which happened in XP. Is this by design, and if so, is there any way of
making the audio engine do an L+R mix when recording mono?
Or do I have to create a virtual mono-mix endpoint in my driver?

Jeff
