Hi all,

I was doing some testing with Steve Spamer this morning and he asked me how
he might hide tracks so that they didn't appear on his control surface.
Being able to do this would reduce the amount of banking that might be
necessary and would also prevent confusion if you had multiple MIDI tracks
feeding lots of audio outputs. I couldn't remember how to do this in Sonar
at the time, but I've checked since and here's the method:

1 - Whilst positioned in the Track View, press M to bring up the Track
Manager;

2 - You'll see a list of checkable items - one for each track/bus in your
project. Use the space bar to uncheck the things you want to hide then Tab
to the OK button and press Enter;

3 - You'll be returned to the Track View and the tracks you unchecked will
have been hidden - test this by arrowing up/down through your project.
However, the hidden tracks will still be visible on your control surface;

4 - Go to the Options menu and choose Control Surfaces;

5 - In the list of installed control surfaces, highlight the unit you want
to configure;

6 - Press Tab until you get to a radio button called "All strips" This sets
your surface to see all of the track strips in your project;

7 - Down Arrow until you've selected the radio button for "Track View" -
this will only expose the track strips that are visible in the Track View;

8 - Tab to the Close button and press Enter. Don't be alarmed if you hear a
load of faders reposition themselves - this is just the hidden tracks
vanishing from your control surface.

Obviously, all you need to do to make the tracks reappear is to go back into
the Track Manager and check them again - this will make them visible
on-screen and on your surface.

Thanks to Steve for a really useful question.

Best wishes.
Tim Burgess
