Shortages of qualified people entering the field and certification have been
discussed on the list serve over the past week. There is definitely a shortage
of people entering the field and there needs to be some discussion on how to
recruit and retain qualified people. There also, needs to be more
universities/colleges that offer a vision rehabilitation therapy degree. The
current number of university/colleges are just not meeting the shortage demands
of vision rehabilitation therapy. In terms of certification, it is very
important to have certification because with certification comes
standardization, which is needed. I feel that having two types of
certification is lowering the standards of what a CVRT does and it is not a
good idea. We need to encourage others to become certified as a CVRT. For
example, when you get sick to you want to go to a MD or a provisional MD?
