Hi Joe,
This missive is going to be a bit long, but you’re abot to embark on a journey
with many possibilities open to you.
The Victor Reader Stream (II, or ‘2nd generation’) is a nice and versatile
little device, and I believe you’ll grow to like it a lot, as you discover the
many things it can do – podcasts; recording of notes; Music; reading and
transfer of books (and accessible or blind-friendly magazines); even recording
of its Internet radio streams (which come – for those who know about these
things from their iPhones – from the directory in the app called ooTunes. (One
can also add radio stations from elsewhere which it will play if it can, and it
usually can.)
So, it also has WiFi capability, in ordedr to access the treasure-trove of
30,000-plus Internet radio stations (mentioned above), and the facility to add
podcasts from the TuneIn podcast directory, as well as the ability to import
and export podcasts you already subscribed to elsewhere.
To Enter / Exit the User Guide; pres and hold the #1 key – the key at the top
left of the main (telephone-style) keypad – for two seconds or so, and then
press the ENTER or CONFIRM key – the long key at the bottom centre of the
3-pack keypad below the main keypad.
(While in the User Guide, PRESS AND HOLD the 0 KEY to turn KEY DESCRIBER ON.
(The same again, turns if OFF. - This is kind-of a context sensitive Help
feature.)
The #4 and #6 keys on the main keypad, respectively, at the centre-left and
centre-right, are the Back and Forward keys. These are used to navigate between
folders at the same level, plus other movements within DAISY recordings with
which you will become familiar through use (as well as by reading the
above-mentioned User Guide).
The #7 key is the MENU key.
The #2 and #8 keys are the up- and down [vertical movement] keys, and are used
to move between different folder levels. the #7 key is used to move between
different utilities within a menu.
The 3-pack of keys above the main keypad are, fropm left to right: GoToPage
Key; Online Features; and the Bookmark key.
You can connect the VR Stream to your computer and charge it that way if you
want to.
Of course, like any good old mobile phone in the days of yore, sometimes the
above-described keys will do different things depending on which program you
are in. These are covered in the User Guide, which you may need to read more
than once – unless you like diving in and figuring things out for yourself as
you go, as you might if you’ve already opearated a similar device before.
The Streanm does have a one-year full warranty should anything go wrong with
the software or the battery. I’ve found Humanware Tech Support (In the UK) to
be friendly to deal with.
Remember that POWER key near the top-left edge of the Stream face. It is your
friend especially at those times when the Stream crashes, which it
unfortunately does now and again. You will need to press and hold the power key
firmly for about 3 seconds until you hear a beep, which is when the Stream
powers on again and re-sets itself.
Enjoy!

Subject: [vip_students] victor reader stream
Friends, I have just received a victor reader stream as a gift, however, I
don’t have any manual or instructions with it, i’ve spent the morning exploring
it and have almost conquered it, however, I want to know what key I press to
get to “folders” and then how do I scroll down through the folder list, it’s a
great little gadget, and the voices are excellent, also, can I charge it from
my computer or must I use the mains lead that came with it to charge it, any
help will be appreciated, hope your day is going well, god bless, travel
safely, joe bollard
