Francis,For whatever reason the specific search functionality with dates, counties and towns, on rip.ie doesn't work properly with JAWS, i.e., you can't use all the criteria at once - your selections seem to get unselected when you do the 'search'. It is a job for CFIT at www.cfit.ie >, I would think. (this is apart from the read/edit issue mentioned by Tony, which is another problem.) I experienced similar problems with both Firefox 3.5 and Internet Explorer 8. (The form misbeahaves somewhat.)

Hi Tony, I don't know if it helps but if you go to the Irish Examiner link on http://easylinks.yolasite.com/ there's a link to their death notices which is very accessible but it may not list the details you need. Iknow the Examiner focuses quite a bit on the south of the country so I'mnot sure if the details you need are there. rip.ie is a very good site so it would be great to see if it could be tweaked so it's fully accessible. All the best, Francis. -----Original Message-----From: "Tony Sweeney" <deirton711@xxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Fri, 14 Aug 2009 00:25:56 +0100 Subject: [vip_students] Re: "read-editt"Ah Flor, It was a good sighted friend, (no, not fiend)! It's another example of a website being unaccessible then!In all fairness probably just a small bit of improvement needed really!Oh, CFIT sort them out will you! Thanks Tony----- Original Message ----- From: Flor LynchTo: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, August 13, 2009 7:28 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: "read-editt" Hi Tony, The thing is, you're not supposed to type in there, thus the 'read-only edit' meaning that the selection from which you must choose is already listed there. Then there are the .. buttons. they seem to movebackwards (I think, so there is a date from list and a date to list.JAWS doesn't read this side of the page consistently, so it's awkward. Maybe there's some funky javascript or automatic page refreshing (which we're not told about) going on with it. It's a bit non-standard, putting it kindly. Fortunately, this page is not typical of mostsearchable pages we might normally use. A simple search (i..e, fromonedate to another, and within a town) might work. I tried one, but was'thrown out' more or less, and got 0 results where I know there should have been one. Rip into whoever it was that recommended you this site!----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Sweeney" <deirton711@xxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, August 13, 2009 5:39 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: "read-editt" Hi Flor, I read the 'how to use this website's page alright. I was checking for information on a former workcolleague's passing www.rip.ie without being gloomy about it. Why does it say "read only, edit" if you must type in there? I typed dates there but no joy! If we knew the identity, we'd be able tosay what is probably being looked for. Also pay attention to whatpreceded the form - there may be a list of particulars provided whichare later to be filled in by you. I turn Forms Mode off by tappingthe PC cursor, and then i down arrow, etc. This can result in more information being given than may be the case when you leave Forms Mode on. If it isn't clear the first time, read the page a few more timesuntil it does become clearer. Don't be afraid to route JAWS cursorto PC cursor and the likes, when in doubt or difficulty.----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Sweeney" <deirton711@xxxxxxxxx>To: "students list" <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, August 13, 2009 2:30 AM Subject: [vip_students] "read-editt" > Hi All, >> Now when I go on to certain websites which have a form field Iam > asked for say the surname and then the county, which is no problem, > but then I go down to where it says: > > "Read only, edit". > > Wonder what "read only, edit" is all about and what should be done > then? >> I do the forms mode thing so am then expected to input something.>> You don't obviously read in there but are expected to type or you> won't indeed generate a result! > > Thanks > > Tony > >******************************************************************** NOTICE: The information contained in this email and any attachments is confidential and may be privileged.
