Morning Paul,

Have done as directed and I'm happily informed that my system is secured!

So now I glean that the Avast voice over is not necessary really but reassuring
though to let us know that the system has been updated.

I now know what to do to check from now on.

Thanks a lot.

  Hi Tony,

While on the desktop press keys "insert + F11" and from the resulting list
of icons that come up, arrow down to see if you have an icon which states
something like this; Avast, your system is fully protected. If you hear
anything different being reported from that avast icon then you most likely
need to update your copy of avast. Here is a direct download link for the
  latest version.

  http://download853.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free_eng.exe

Make sure that the link on the above line isn't wrapped onto a second line
as this will make the link useless if you try to download from it.

  Paul.

  Hi All,

Now Paul might wish to answer this.

I don't hear now that Avast female or male voice letting me know that Avast
  has updated!

I hear though Jaws reading 'Avast Information'!

Now does that mean that things are still alright or should I be concerned
that Avast is not fully updating and such?
