Hi Stuart,

As a matter of interest, which recorder are you using?

Haven't really yet come to terms with my IAudio X5 - though I note the
earlier comments on the list re the noise when an external mike is used.
I sometimes think I should have gone with the Olympus DS50!

Haven't downloaded Infovics yet, but wil comment when I'e listened to it.

Regards,

Eamonn

Hi Derbhile,

I agree, there were some problems certainly relating to people being a
little further from the Microphone.

This was down to my learning how to use my very new audio recorder, so
apologies all for that.

As derbhile says though, background sound can be very effective when used
properly and on that note, I’d be interested to ask people to feed me back
on what style they would prefer interviews to be conducted on future
editions of Infovics.

Do you prefer the quieter studio interview setting, with no noise or do
you like our slightly more informal settings, where we try, as much as is
possible in audio, to bring you with us and make it more of a
conversational chat as opposed to an interview.

All comments welcomed.

Regards,

Stuart.

I don't think the problem is background noise, I think it was more of a
technical problem to do with some of the speakers not being close enough
to the microphone, which can be easily remedied. I think the use of
background noise can be very effective. It's easy to be down on noise, but
when used well, sound has a lot of creative possibilities, which I think
Stuart has harnessed in his interviews.
