Its something that I would not want to do if you are asking about a new device.
But it can boost the performance of a device. Lets say that a technical spec
of a device can run faster then the device is usually underclocked for best
battery performance. But there are special kernels that will both overclock for
example a nexus 4 usually is rated at1.5GHz but it can be overclocked to 1.9
GHZ which would give it a big boost in performance as well as the kernel that
I have installed also will improve battery performance. I would not recommend
you do this if you are not aware of what is involved. I just did it as I knew
what I was doing.

        Gary,
I still haven’t installed a custom ROM onto my Galaxy S3 phones, and I
am interested in overclocking too.
Do you have some advice from a Blindness perspective?
        Thanks.

My primary device is an older nexus 4 with custom rooted apps as well
its overclocked 2 ghwith a custom kernal which improves the performance of the
device comparable to anything out there. Till I can find a device that I like.

then I'll take a look . I'm a pure android guy and if thes5 does not work for
me then I'll look at another nexus device. I stated that this is not my primary
