You will want to refer to UEB 9.7 for more detail about placement of
typeform indicators and terminators. In particular, see UEB 9.7.2 and its
examples.
To provide more detail, in cases such as you describe in your question, it
is less important to be exactly accurate in indicating what is rendered in
a special typeform, than it is to provide a more-readable transcription.
Embedding a typeform terminator between a word and closing punctuation is
considered to be less-readable, so we avoid such a situation by following
UEB 9.7.2.

After all, we're in this particular instance only italicising the four
words in the name of the newspaper and not the entire sentence.
