The reason I had to understand French and Spanish Braille was due to the
school curriculum.

Not sure if this info puts any light on the subject, but our pupils had to
choose 2 languages from French, Spanish, German or Latin. Our pupils
between them chose the French and Spanish, but if they had chosen Latin or
German, we would have had to learn that too in order to produce the
worksheets etc they required for class and successful participation.

significant gaps in my knowledge of the UEB?
