I did as Chuck suggests, I downloaded all the updates
for 98/98SE and burnt them to CD. One thing that I'd
like to point out though, Win 95 is still being used by
many, and so is Win 3.1(by far less), but they can both
access any website.

As for Win2k, every time I've downloaded SP4 &
installed it, I've not been able to access the
internet. Upon uninstallation & reverting to my
previous back up, then I regain connectivity. The one
time I didn't backup my working installation I had to
reformat & reinstall.

As to any one that excludes me from accessing a website
because of my OS preferences IMO (s)/he is a fool -
like a vendor would be who refuses to be paid by credit
card(just a for instance).

I just won't pay for another lemon, that's all. I got a
couple of them already in 98 & 2K - fool me once, shame
on you; fool me twice, shame on me!

I don't see what it is that XP can do that I might not
be able to do with what I have. Security & use of NTFS?
What security...? Remember "blaster"!
IE6 sec. updates, & what has yet to be fixed...?

Support?
What support? Never got much from them anyway? That's
why this and thousands of support groups and websites
exist and when M$ tells me "ain't no more comin'",
there's nothing I can do about it.

Heck, it's often an outsider who discovers a new flaw
or weakness in Windows anyway! What they do at Redmond
I don't know...Oops,yes I know, make money from
trusting gullible customers who cannot return the
defective merchandise they buy.

Lest you purchase a new PC, which will in all
probability have XP, don't waste your money in
"upgrading". If you do, make sure the hardware you have
will accommodate XP or you may just have to end up
buying a new box to fit the OS.

TMO.
Quitting my bellyaching now, thanks for putting up with
me.

switching
  vs. keeping windows 98.

simple... if you "want to keep 98".. go to langa's site
and do as he says
to collect all the files you will need..... but keep
one thing in mind.....
after we hit 2004 and get on down the year.... lots
more places on the web will
be dependent upon xp styling programs etc to work....
so......and handwrting is
on the wall just about clear as a bell.... upgrade...
MS is forcing that and no
way around it unless you go to linux maybe...... you
can try being a holdout...
but for how long?.... its a bummer and dont see any way
around it..... and xp
will be soon be  gone by the wayside in couple of
years..... heck... I have
a box full of discs for dos,win3.0,3.1 win 95,and the
major protion of them are
simply that.. box of old discs that will not run on
xp... soon be same for
98,98se,me ..... add them to the box also..... need me
a bigger box maybe.....
next is longhorn..... and loads of stuff I have will be
added to the box.......
its coming..... and not much we can do about it ,other
than to unplug the pc if
we try to keep outmoded systems, unless we just want to
have a display unit on
the shelf..... chuck...in ok
