I picked up one of each (sealed in plastic and boxed) today myself.
First I opened the one sealed in plastic as I wanted to see what it
looked like using component input as well as S-video and composite.
The results were disappointing to say the least. The video quality
with composite is tolerable but not nearly as good as I had hoped and
S-video is horrible. Loads of interference on the screen and a washed
out, almost gray scale picture. I tried two different cables from my
64 to eliminate the possibility of a dodgy cable and I've connected up
a few other devices to see if the 64 could be the problem. No joy. I'm
not going to bother testing the component input.

I then opened the boxed version and discovered that not only does it
lack component, it lacks S-video too. For some reason I thought it had
S-video. Alas, composite is all you get. Oh well. That's the bad news.
The good news is that the screen is larger, brighter and the image
quality is considerably better than the other unit (using composite).
Still not as good as I had hoped but it's tolerable.

While I wasn't expecting much for $50, I was expecting something a bit
better. At this point, I think I'm going to return them both (unless
somebody wants one in which case they should contact me off list).

The search for a decent, inexpensive LCD continues.
