nope.
irc can do both.
I have my own irc server.
history works just fine without a bot.
join, leave, come back, get caught up to date.
cant be logged if you're not there.
your client can keep your own history as well.
so either channel history or personal history, both covered.
Discord really is just a poor man's irc...
