Thank you all very much for the help! I did notice that the skipper's wings
were relatively long, which is how I originally ruled out Little Glassywing.
Clouded Skipper was one of my other guesses as well.

Skippers give everyone problems, so don’t feel bad. My guess is Little
Glassywing. There are several other species that closely resemble it, which
makes it confusing. It seems you can see a white area on the antenna, just
before the club, which is one characteristic of this species.

I'm an inexperienced butterflier that has a very difficult time with
skippers - I consider them the sandpipers of the butterfly world. I have a
photo of one that I need help identifying, and I've attached a link to my

Description: medium-sized, chocolate brown, white spots on the wings, pale
zigzag on underwing, fed on Morning Glories and perched on Moss Rose
(pictured). I'm sure it's something embarrassingly common, but expertise
