I own an Canon EOS 50d with a 100 to 400 mm zoom camera that takes excellent shots despite frequent operator errors but this camera is rather expensive ~ 3K and is also very heavy. I recently bought an Canon SX50 power shot point and shoot which sports a 50x zoom and also provides RAW format which can be very when using photoshop or lightroom when processing the photos. The SX50 actually performs better in acquiring id worthy shots in some situations i.e. usually long distance shots in good lighting. Typically though the photos are not as good as the EOS but given that the SX 50 sells for $ 325 dollars and weighs next to nothing I think it would be an excellent camera for folks just getting started with bird photography. Panasonic makes a good super zoom as well called the LUMIX DMC FZ200. I believe it has a 26x zoom and a very fast lens 2.8 throughout the zoom range. I have several birding friends who own this camera and are pleased with the photos and performance. The price on this camera is a bit higher ~ $ 450.00. I like the SX50 with it's long zoom for longer hikes and have found that sometimes with it's powerful zoom I can identify a bird using the camera that is unidentifiable in my Zeiss bins. best, William Leigh leightern@xxxxxxx Bridgewater, Virginia Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2014 19:42:53 -0400 Subject: [TN-Bird] Re: camera From: wgpu@xxxxxxxxxxx To: ablroyce@xxxxxxxxx; tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Alice, Do you want interchangeable lenses?
