[TN-Bird] Odd happenings

I returned to my home in nw Shelby County yesterday from a trip to
California (swimmin' pools, movie stars. 15 life birds, 4 life mammals) to
find a
number of unusual avian activities in my yard. First was a black-billed
cuckoo
calling from an oak next to the front door. I noticed a male ruby-throated
hummingbird chasing a female away from a feeder, then doing his "U-dance" to
entice her to stay. There were three adult green herons sharing a log in the
lake below the house. Scandal in heronland? An immature Carolina wren kept
flying up from the deck into the glass storm door, knocking himself for a
loop each time, then doing it again, reminding me for all the world of
Snoopy's
friend Woodstock. Checking nest boxes, I found 2 e bluebird nests, each with
5 eggs. Another nest held 4 prothonotary warbler eggs along with one
cowbird (promptly dispatched).
