[TN-Bird] Re: Odd happenings!

I had a Field Sparrow, today, with what looked like a broken tail. It sat very
still in the snow on the ground for a long time, and when it began to move, I
thought it was injured, since it moved so slowly, some of its tail feathers
were missing and the ones left were dragging the ground on one side. When the
little bird struggled to fly and slowly lifted off the ground, it didn’t fly
far, only a few feet and it couldn’t gain elevation over 18 about inches. that
is when I saw that the remaining tail feathers hung straight down because they
were weighted down with a solid ball of ice like a large shooter marble. Poor
little thing looked like it was dragging and a ball and chain.
