Out of curiosity I checked out Ebird records for chipping sparrow. I was
able to download the data into a text file and convert it to an Excel
spreadsheet and generate a graph. Ebird makes nicer charts, but I have not
figured out how to download them.
This chart indicates the % of time that chipping sparrows have been reported
on submitted checklist in Knox and the 8 surrounding counties. The % of
charts indicating presence of chipping sparrows is the blue line, and the
number of checklist for that week is indicated by the vertical bars.
Either we do not report birds in the appropriate habitat for chipping
sparrows during the summer (observer bias) or they vacate the area.
