[TN-Bird] Buffalo River CBC

Buffalo River CBC
Lawrence County, TN

Ten birders in five parties conducted the Buffalo River CBC on January 2, 2010. 
 A total of 79 species were found; 11,391 individuals.  Highlights included 17 
Northern Bobwhite, 1 American Coot, 2 American Woodcock, 14 Loggerhead Shrike, 
2 House Wren, 1 Gray Catbird (photo), 1 Dark-eyed (Pink-sided) Junco, 30 
Lapland Longspur and 6 Purple Finch.  Record high numbers were tallied for 6 
species (Eastern Phoebe-52, Tufted Titmouse-322 (out-numbered Carolina 
Chickadee almost 6:1),  House Wren-2, American Robin-1714, Northern 
Mockingbird-166 and Dark-eyed Junco-789.  Interesting misses included Wilson's 
Snipe and Common Barn-Owl.  Most waterfowl was also absent (only Canada Goose, 
Wood Duck, Gadwall, Mallard and Common Goldeneye recorded).
