Even though I have a couple of bird bath heaters, I still fill a couple of containers on the ground with water. Like Carole, I try to empty them at night, but in the mornings I fill them with warm (not hot) water and by the time the water hits the icy containers, it's cool. Since I work and have to leave, I figure the warmer water will take longer to freeze on these always below freezing days. Thinking that all the feeder birds would immediately swarm to it I was kind of surprised that they just kept eating and didn't pay the water any attention. However, I was then grateful to find that a family of bluebirds had swooped in to get a drink not even 15 minutes after I first set the container out. Couple fairly good pictures at my new flickr page below. http://www.flickr.com/photos/york911 -side note- still consistently having purple finches at my feeders this winter Stanley York Jr Palmyra-Montgomery County, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
