As far as I have heard, Microsoft have stated that Exchange 2K will not run on a 2K3 box. Exchange 2K3 is out this quarter (alledgedly) and 2K3 SBS is out next quarter. Early adopters were having to continue to use Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 servers in a 2003 domain because of this. Not sure if this has changed over the last couple of months. From what I have read and been told from Microsoft, if you are running Exchange 2000, you will need to make sure you have a COMPLETE backup of your PRIV and PUB IS(s) as you WILL need to completely re-install Exchange after the domain re-name. Also, the Domain Rename tool should ONLY be used as a last case resort. There are so many "gotchas" and caveats to this tool. It is recommended that a parallel migration in conjunction with the ADMTv2 be used to do a domain rename. One of our cutomers went to 200 just for that ability alone. However if you're running exchange, then an upgrade to exchange 2003 is just about mandatory if you want to minimise your problems. regards, Rick Ulrich Mack rmack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Volante Systems 18 Heussler Terrace, Milton 4064 Queensland Australia tel +61 7 32467704 -----Original Message----- From: Chad Pirowski [mailto:cpirowski@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, 30 July 2003 6:48 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: renaming w2k server AD domain Anyone heard if Windows 2003 can do this? I thought it offered that function.... I could be wrong (it happened once). The only option would be to create a new domain with a different name, and migrate your resources. If all you need is different domain aliases, that can be done, but not changing the actual NetBios domain name.
