Found it. Was actually in the GPO template for office (looked in the
office adm file and found the registry key).

Couple of things that will help me, and the thin list team to answer you
question.
1. How many servers are in your farm ? Is Office 2003 publised on more
than one server
2. What type of profile system do you use ? Roaming for example
3. Do you use any folder redirection ?
As you saying that the checkbox is not staying ? If so this is a
registry setting. If its creating new ones then as far as I am aware the
replace as you type setting simply modifies the custom.dic file. but you
could check by renaming it.

autocorrect "replace text as you type" setting it does not hang around
after they open and close word.
I can do it with admin id and it works.
I have tried to use regmon and filemon to identify where the
problem is but there are not errors and the amount of info is huge.
Can Anyone point me to where this info is stored. MS sort of
indicates it should be in the "REGISTRY" that is all they say. I
suspect it might be in hkcu\sw\ms\office\11.... somewhere. Or
normal.dot??
