OK so the general consensus is that we host our on DNS internally. I can live with that. _________________________________ Michael Boggan Network Engineer/Citrix Admin Virtual Desktop Inc. Your ISP would have to have the IP address of xp1. Not a good idea, especially since you are using a private 10.x address. Maybe you should put up your own internal DNS and ad something like an 'i' to your internal systems (ie i.vdesktop.org) dns suffix. We host our DNS with what is called a warp box but cannot use that to do DNS resolution for pcs and servers. _________________________________ -----Original Message----- From: McAlister, Barry [mailto:bm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 4:31 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Networking question are you using Win200n DNS? If so what does that DNS server have stored for your XP1 entry? -----Original Message----- From: Michael Boggan [SMTP:MBoggan@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2002 11:29 PM To: THIN (E-mail) Subject: [THIN] OT: Networking question Ok here is one for all you IP gurus out there. I have been having lots of problems with published apps since we started using them. IE. they would NOT work. AFter many long ours on the phone with citrix support we determined that it is my network. Our servers are named xp1, xp2, xp3 etc. We use internal 10.10.1.x addressing for ip network and use pix firewall to map external ips to internal ips. Now for the fun part. When we ping 10.10.1.101 for xp1 it is fine. but if we ping xp1, it returns the dns name of xp1.vdesktop.org and the external public address which will not work inside and causes servers not to see each other. Has anyone seen this and know why it is doing it. my brain is fried and I can't figure it out. HELP.
