I think Mark is talking about Trend's Network Virus Wall

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/network/nvw/evaluate/overview.htm

Saw a demo of this a couple of weeks ago - quite impressive but worked out
reasonably expensive for us. Basically a hardware appliance that sits
between your users and your servers - on a switched network this effectively
means between your edge switches and core data centre switches. In most
cases this means you will need several of these devices (all managed from
one management tool - along with any other trend sw you have).

The device is able to check what versions of various components a
workstation has and block access to the rest of the network if it does not
meet core requirements - like av sig versions (trend or other major av
vendors) or windows patches. It is also able to detect certain signs of
worm/trogan activity - like attempts to communicate of specific ports and
block those.

Overall a very impressive bit of hardware ...

We now use Trend Micro Small to Medium Business Solution. It has a nice
console and is very reasonably priced per client. The console tells you
what clients are on and off line as well as what version of the signature
files they are on. This is a GREAT product. We priced them all out and
looked at features as far as managment and this is the one to get!

Trend Micro's Viruswall claims to fit your need...also NAC (Network
Access Control) from cisco will attempt to block people as well.

List I have an off topic question for you.

As part of our efforts to protect our LAN/WAN we are trying to work out
a
way to detect what PC's are active on our network so we can determine
if
they have AV and the latest Windows updates installed. We have had a
lot of
problems with workstations infected with virus/worms/etc flooding our
wan
links. Do other people have this problem and how do you detect problem
PC's.

Thanks for you help with this.
