All - My thoughts on this topic. First, I only check Texbirds and eBird, the latter to simply post my wn observations. Thus, anything posted on Facebook, Twitter or any other list serve "escapes" my attention. Second, posting is, indeed, at the discretion of the observer. And sometimes it is best NOT to post a rareity for a variety of reasons. However, as a member of the TBRC, I know very well how difficult it often is to obtain ANY documentation for a rareity. Either everyone thinks someone else will report the bird(s) or few persons who observed the bird are unable [or unwilling] to provide proper details or images. I don't want to have the object inundated by dozens [hundreds?] of birders eager to "tick" the bird on their list, but multiple observers should lead to better documentation. The Flammulated Owl on SPI is an excellent example of how multiple observers have contributed to the record. The first images that I saw were barely recognizable as that species; Erik Breden recenty posted some images that clearly ID the bird as that species. Also, had the bird not been posted, we would not know that it remained in this area at least until the 26th [maybe later?] My 2 cents.
