Heidi:

This morning when I searched eBird for Monk Parakeets all I saw was records
for the east coast of the US. After I posted my note on TexBirds, one of
my friends sent me an eBird map of Monk Parakeet records for Bexar County.
So then I used the same methods as I had before to have eBird do another
search for Monk Parakeets. This time eBird produced a map showing Monk
Parakeets in the Greater Houston area, Corpus Christi, McAllen, Laredo, the
Dallas-Fort Worth Area, the San Antonio-Austin-Temple corridor, Kerrville,
and the Midland-Andrews area. My hypothesis is that when I did my first
search someone was editing eBird's Monk Parakeet data.

Onward!

Monk Parakeets probably don't get much eBird love, but that doesn't mean
they don't exist -- Andrews, Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio,
Seabrook/Kemah, and a smattering of other locations have populations of
varying size. Texas A&M is keeping track of them, so any reports that are
outside of the areas I listed need additional details!

Happy trails,
