SENDING ON BEHALF OF LAMONT BROWN - HE WAS HAVING TROUBLE POSTING.....   Jim and all: I too am competitive and like D.D. Currie,I plan going through counties that I likely would otherwise not bird, when headed in a direction. Had I been able to be at the Laredo meeting I was prepared to give a Five Minute talk on âThe 2013 Panhandle Falloutâ. This was one of the neatest birding experiences I have ever had. It was a direct result of me going into the Panhandle this past winter to open the remaining 7 counties to allow me to reach the 254 number, which is all Texas Counties.  David Sarkowzi and I have visited a few times about TXCC. I have put together a 16-page document describing what I believe to be the best overhaul of TXCC. I will be happy to send a copy to all TOS Board members and even meet with you to discuss this project overhaul at a future meeting. There is no pride of authorship in this document as it can be reworked and massaged to make the TXCC viable. It is simply a nice place to start in the process. In my opinion, there are two very critical components needed for TXCC to be viable, the TOS Board backing and a âCEO typeâ to champion the TXCC cause and bring it and the accomplishments to the forefront for all of us to see. IMHO the impact of TXCC especially on some of the least populated / birded counties is unequivocal.  There are ways that even the current data entry can be streamlined without having to import from eBird. Over the last six months or so I have added Brady Surber, Vernon, to take about 20 counties in Regions 1 and 2. Also Steve Welborn, Quanah has taken 30 or more Region 1 and 2 counties as editor. He is willing to do more as we can streamline the process. Additionally Steve has shared some really good ideas with me in the planning process, many of which I incorporated into the planning document mentioned above.  Lastly, I would hate to see the TXCC be exclusively based upon submissions to eBird. First I do not want to be in competition in a county with everyone that ever lived or ever submitted data to eBird. I want to be in friendly competition with all of you [those] that WANT to play the game. Secondly there are at least two and possibly more TXCCers that do not contribute to eBird. Having this as a requirement would necessarily push out some good birders. Dell and I have had more fun doing the county listing and have gone places we never would have gone if not for this challenge and we have met some really great people that have helped us find 100 species in several counties.  In fact, we are taking off work to go to Grimes County this Friday. We have less than 20 birds to get to 100 which will make 100 counties with 100 species for me (wooooo hooooo!!!!).  Why else would we go to Grimes County in August in Texas for birding!!! (Sorry Darrell Vollert, but also thank you for helping us find the other 80 species in Grimes county 4 years ago!).  So.....for the unofficial record.....DD Currie is at 99 and Dell Little is at 97 counties in Texas with 100 species.....hopefully soon to add one more.  DD Currie Arlington, TX ________________________________ From: Cameron Carver <c.o.carver@xxxxxxxxx> To: "irasciblej@xxxxxxxxx" <irasciblej@xxxxxxxxx> Cc: Texbirds <texbirds@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; TOS <TOS-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, August 12, 2013 5:57 PM Subject: [texbirds] Re: Century Club All, If TOS is not responsible for TXCC, then the TXCC website is incredibly misleading. In the description of the challenge it states that the challenge is sponsored by TOS. Many Texas birders have put quite a bit of time, effort and money into the century club. I have always been under the impression that TOS has been associated with TXCC. If that is not the case I would expect a few people to be a little... upset. If TOS does not officially sponsor TXCC then that needs to be changed on both websites and officially addressed by TOS.
