Al your scanner/copier came with some software, and in that software is some settings for the scanner's resolution (ie 200 dpi or 300dpi or maybe 600 or 1200 dpi) . If you set it to 200 dpi it may be adequate for a descent picture, but most likely you should shoot for 300 to 600 dpi, then save as a JPG file (standardized just like PDF files are). Either format should provide reasonable compression, but if you want to jam your elephant into a steamer trunk....that will require maximizing your JPG/PDF compression settings and choosing the lowest legible Dpi setting you can use. If this doesn't help.....then do what you tell your customers to do......Read the manual/help file. Good luck.
