They manufacture several million VCRs during production of a particular model. 
The odds
are that 1 to 3% will fail during the warranty period. The $47.50 loss in 
paying profile
warranty rates is just a drop in the bucket compared to the money made on the 
ones that
do not fail. The assembly line manufacturing process is an efficient way to 
build these
and any other type of unit. It is unfortunate that we have to repair these 
things the old
fashion way, 1 at a time.
