If its less than 3 years old, I have had a couple of tvcrs which, among
other problems, left the reel brakes on because pieces had broken off inside
the cam gear. If its older than that, reel brake problems were caused by the
ML Holder lever binding and not keeping the Main Lever in the position to
keep the brakes released.
