OK, listening to all your hair raising stories I feel I must contribute my one and only HV experience. I was young and inexperienced at the time and didn't realize that a CRT could hold HV for a period of time, in fact this TV had been sitting "off" for about a month. I was changing a pic tube, went to remove the anode cap (with my bare fingers) and...ZAP. Needless to say the shock travelled through my arm, across my chest to my other arm. I felt my heart jump a couple of times, sat down for a while and had a smoke (bad habit). What did I learn? Always discharge a CRT before servicing it. CLEAR...ZAP... I was working on a stock console, I had the crt socket unplugged to see where the sizzling was. Kneeling down I plugged the set in and the crt socket arced to my forehead.. I dropped over like a bowling pin.. Well the HV exceeded 50k and cracked neck on tube.
