About the issue of "correctly" repaired,
I was informed by a Sony tech, that the sets circuit draw changes as the set
ages, causing "added heat to a poorly designed system".The original design
specs were very tight, leaving no room for change.
He said to add extra heatsink to the overheating components.
Overheating being too hot to touch. No higher than 150 F. using an infrared
reading.

Leonard,I have used both methods only when all other options were
explored.Fans & addon heatsinks did the job for me.I use small 5 volt
minfans which run very very quiet & draw very little current.Tks to Phil
Bader for this tip & the source for these & other fans.''HOSFELT''.I
remember a customer who came in with a Sony I had repaired some years
ago.Not related to the previous repair,he had broken off the ''rf'' cable
connector. When I removed the back there was my fan I had installed;still
running & quiet as day installed. It works for me BUT to each his own..my
