We used to do that too. Had one person that did nothing but replace caps in
camcorders. About half worked after the caps were replaced. Had another tech
that did nothing but troubleshoot the ones that didnt work after the caps
were replaced. Usually eaten traces or thru holes. Sometimes corrosion under
ICs or other components. Sometimes we just could not fix a board and had to
replace it. Some camcorders came back later with corrosion damage and we had
to fix for free. Canon camcorders were damaged worse than the Sonys. We
charged $150 to $300. But now you can buy a new one for
$250 with a color LCD so those days are gone.
