Jonas,

=A0=A0Did your esr meter fail? What kind of esr meter do you use? I have
found testing the value of an electrolytic is less important than
testing for esr. I have an old analog esr meter made by a company that
has been out of business now for years, Creative Electronics out of
Michigan. If I had known they were going to close down I would have
bought another from them. They were very well made units. I have seen
some of the newer ones and am not impressed with the quality.

Hello David,
I read again your original thread, and saw that Eric Manuel suggested to
replace C816 1000uf/25v (thanks Eric). I replaced it and VOILA, set
fired up. I had esr'd it originally and it was ok, the value was at 945
and I thought it was close enough. So I dusted off my Sprague Tel-Ohmike
and checked it under a load, and sure enough, it craps out at about
10.5v. I replaced all the original ic's back into the set and has been
running as it
should for three hours now.
I saw that you had changed that cap also, may want to check it again. If
still no 12v, unsolder pin 1 of IC 853 and see if the 12v comes up. I
found
originally a 100uf/16v(that is tied inton this IC) down to about 40uf
(damn,
I don't remember the location #, but it's in front of IC 853). Let me
know
if you need the location #.

Hello David,
I am experiencing the exact same problem. No start because the 12v and
5v
supplies are missing. Have changed IC 852 and HC 802?(not at the office
and not sure of the numbers). When I take out either one of these the
12v comes back. Decided to check the micro, and saw the VDD at .6v at
standby. Unsoldered, and the 5v came up. I have a spare chassis I saved
that came
with a brocken crt and board, and swapped out the the micro. Set came on
at
once and I thought I had it. I turned the set off and on about 5-6
times,
unplugged it, yep you guessed it, same thing. Worked on this set about
three hours saturday without a schematic and decided to search the Tech
Assist archives when I ran across your thread.
I
have to exchange a couple of Thomson HD sets tomorrow(crt's not
available)
so I won't be able to attack this set till Tuesday. Of course I'll let
you know what I find. Client doesn't want to spend more than $100 so I
won't spend too much more
time, unless this gets my goat.
Maybe there is somethig in Winstips for this model, or these models
which
should be close:
