[TechAssist] Re: Opinion Poll DON'T DELETE, MORE IMPORTANT THAN A REPAIR TIP!!!!

I understand this to be much different than Wards or Sears. They had huge
storefronts in all cities, with lights and all. Lots of overhead. I am not
saying this to be afraid of competition, I competed with wards and Sears,
and fixed many behind them. This is a little different, they are getting a
big advantage here and lots of help from our peers. This new Service Company
will have none of that overhead. Just the technicians salary and Van. They
will be able to charge dirt cheap prices with a much better chance of taking
some or lots of our business. The nearest storefronts will be some Corporate
Headquarters' somewhere where the Techs will have training and business
meetings. They can put all their money in BIG HUGE Yellow Page ads. If we
think Wards and Sears had some business, this will make them look like
Hobo's. And to top it all off they will start with the manufacturers, and
Service Organizations backing. It is like opening a McDonalds restaurant,
instant business. You know whom the Manufacturers will recommend when
customers call them, it won't be us. That's fine, make light of it, that is
what the poor hardware store owners said of Wal-Mart, and the Computer
software guru's said of Microsoft. The rest is History.

A REPAIR TIP!!!!

I`ve watched this post from the beginning and wasn`t going to reply to it
but I`m going to throw my 2 cents in anyway. Montgomery Wards & Sears
have been doing this for over 40 years (yes I know wards is gone), it`s
nothing
new, hell NAP had factory service for years all over the place, did we all
lose our jobs? NO we didn`t, UPS has been doing it for quite awhile now,
if your afraid of the competition then you shouldn`t be self employed,
there are fewer of us than ever before, and even if they do find enough
qualified help (which I doubt) they will just be another sears/wards service
center, high priced service calls, labor & parts markup, I worked for wards
for 8 years up north and they were the biggest crooks on the planet, did
they have work? Yes they did, lots of it, when I quit and went back to work
for myself did I have work? Well here I am 10 years later still making a
decent living, STOP worrying about your competition and concentrate on your
business and what has kept you in business, charging a fair price and
treating your customer as you would like to be treated and you`ll be in
business until your 80, that`s my opinion, Larry E
