I just repaired a VS50502 with an overheated R5a28(2.4K).
The Flyback was bad.... it rang good..... set was shutting down 
immmediately.I could lift the 130v fuse,and the set would stay 
on(careful,slow discharge this 130v when you shut the set off).
Found a few tips on this model for a couple of bad Diodes(1n4148) when 
R5a28 is bad........ D5a21,22.
The Diodes were good in my set.

I'm not sure how similar your set is to this one.
