Hello Paul, Thanks for the tip on leaving set plugged in but turned off. We don't need the additional stress of putting our hand into a live set. I did discover awhile back that the old eeprom could be saved like you said but after having a couple come back out of 20 or so i now just leave in the new one. I charge enough for doing the tuner soldering job to easily recover the cost. You don't have to change the eeprom with the set still playing! Just turn it off, but don't unplug the set. As long as the 5v is active, it will save the eeprom start-up data in the cpu and that is what you want. In fact, after re-installing the old eeprom, and turning the set on and off, you will usually find that the old eeprom works fine. THEN you don't have to transfer the tuner data to the new eeprom. One thing that you MAY have to do, in this process, is to reset the parameters from 1 thru 12. You can then save the new eeprom to start another set, or you may need to install it in the set you are working on, if the old one is actually defective,(that is won't hold data). You can eleminate all of the above process by using the rca chipper checker and just check and re-initlize the eeprom. Plus you will need it to service the 195 thru 203 chassis. But the above process works great on the older chassis. I hope I haven't confused you too much. Good hunting. Once you have written all the values (can turn off set ) swap the old eeprom for the new one and enter the values you retrieved, from the old one, into the new eeprom.
