I've been using the CD drive as a back up for my accounting program since I
got the HP computer nearly 4 years ago. When the accounting program writes
to the disk it says "backup file xxxxx already exists, it will be deleted if
you continue" I've been doing this on the same disk for over a year, backing
up my TV shop, apartment house, and two personal checking accounts. I use a
new disk each year after I've done my taxes so I can save the old one with
my tax files. But the program saves all the data from the year I got the
program, which was Jan 1st 1998. Right now the used portion of the disk
which is over a year old is a band a little over 1/4" wide.
I do not use RW disks. I tried them when I first got a CD burner and gave up
using them because I had trouble with them. I don't remember what the
problem was, it was a long time ago and I just haven't bothered to try them
again. It may have been the technology or the drive or the disks of that
time, I don't know.

I recently bought a Sony DVD/VCR with which I can save TV programs to DVD,
same as using a VCR. I have one RW disk in it that I have been rewriting for
about a week with no problems. It's a Staples DVD+RW disk.
