It's confusing Al...
Setting your CD aside...DVD come as readers only..or as Reader/Burners.
Now the confusing part....DVD's can be burned in 2 formats....DVD+...and
DVD-...some burners, the newer ones usually do both formats...Read and
Write.
    If you have a DVD that was burnt with the "+" format some older DVD
ROM's may not be able to read them. Or the other way around.
Most new DVD R-RW will come with their own software..usually Nero or
similar.

    I know it's confusing for us old Buggers...but there is enough on the
net to make it even more confusing.

    Just be aware of the two different formats. One will win out in the
future..but not sure which one it will be...sort of like Beta and VHS.
