My hp computer came with a program called HP-DLA (drive letter access) that
lets me save to a CD just like a regular drive. Trouble is the disk is only
readable in a computer with the same program installed, so it makes a lousy
back up if you can't read the disk until you reinstall the whole original
operating system that is only on the hard drive that just crashed. They
didn't send any reinstallation disks with it.

So far I haven't found a way to copy the program out to install it to
another computer.
