With regard to unmetered supplies I have been lumbered with the job of
updating our codes. Our signals database should accurately reflect the
equipment on each site but my problem is matching the codes with what's on
site. I asked our maintenance contractor for a list of codes and they sent
me the same list that I already had, which doesn't make much sense to me.
For instance there are 26 different codes for "Traffic Signal Controller"
and 3 for MVDs, 4 for OMUs, 5 for OTUs etc. etc. etc. If these are the
codes we have to use, why can't they say what the code refers to. I'd be
interested to hear about the experiences of others with matching codes to
kit and also the experiences of those who have gone down the metered
supplies road. With a meter you pay for what you use (I assume) and if you
change anything on site you don't have to worry about
adding/subtracting/changing codes. Where are the meters situated and are
there any problems with having them read? Does somebody have to be there
to let the meter reader see the meter? How does the costs compare?
Thanks

Alistair McIntyre
