The cost actually was 0.5k or GBP500 sorry for confusion.
The costs vary from GBP100 to over GBP1k but we too usually install the BT
ducting if we're working in the area to reduce costs. The .5k was an average
price.

Just a quick comment on the BT cost of 5k in Derby.

BT have changed their minds a number of times over the years concerning
getting our equipment connected to their piece of wire. We've gone from
BT posts to pits and now to direct connection. Trouble is, BT are very
expensive when it comes to ducting. We have an agreement with BT that
our contractor will obtain a suitable length of grey 50mm duct from BT -
usually donated free - and install it from our cabinet to within one
metre of the appropriate BT chamber. Their contractor will core drill
the chamber and make the final connection, then install the cable.

The latest site in Sefton to be connected involved our contractor
installing 6m of duct for less than 300.00 and BT's cost of 280.00 to
make the connection; total job less than 600.00. Left to BT, the cost
would have been significantly more.
