Thanks for the info. It helps a bunch!

Thanks for the open offer to share,

I just thought I'd share a very similar experience. It may not have anything to do with you situation, but it was definitely something I never would have thought of. I was lucky enough to have this guy that I bought a bench seat off of to share his knowledge. Like yourself I had exhausted what I thought was all possibilities. Right after the second carb rebuild (no clogged ports or jets) I ran gas straight out of a clean jar because I thought that dirty gas from the old tank was clogging the jets. But I had the same problem. Mario said that the old spec for the size of the jet doesn't work well with the combination of new gas (compared to the 70's gas) dirty tanks and the Texas environment. I'm not a chemist or an atmospheric pressure specialist, so I got no clue if this is truth or myth. I just know he was right on the money. I wish I could remember what we drilled it out to, it wasn't much, and this hole is already very small to begin with. I might still have it written down somewhere, I'll take a look. Seems like I remember he said that the pilot jet from the Pict 30 was also a slightly larger bore than the 34's and would work in the 34, but I wouldn't swear to it (again bad memory, and it's only been two years;-). The pilot jet that I'm referring to is shown as #34 on the exploded view in the Bentley manual fig 5-27. The one on the right side of the carb as you're looking at it from the back of the engine.

So the mystery man Mario not only hooked me up with a bench seat, but in less than two minutes he identified a problem I had been scratching my head over for a couple of weeks.

I'll be continuing to eves drop if you don't mind. I don't have much to share but I'll be happy to chime in if I think I've got something that might be helpful. Take it for what it's worth, use it or ignore it, as always it's up to you. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Good Luck,
Dave

P.S Don't worry, my back porch is a concrete slab so no worries of me fallin off any time soon. Wait, I do have a dog I might trip over.......

Ditto on the electronic ignition! I run it in all my cars.

David has a point with the idle jet. Although he drilled his out it might have been clogged and drilling it out just unclogged it. I had 2 brand new 34's pict carbs and they both did the same thing as yours. Turns out both idle juts were clogged with manufacturing trash.

I looked for intake leaks and cleaned out jets, adjusted his 34 pict carb and then switched to another 34 pict carb and adjusted points and timing and after all of this no change, still no idle, foot off gas and he dies. (I now know that I should have started with the points and timing first but my excuse is that I never had to deal with them before.) All of this fiddling around and no change.

When I start the Bus the key does not come back to the run position, I have to carefully move it out of the start postion. I bought the stuff to fix the problem but it sounds like a tough job and add to it that this Bus has crazy wiring so I haven't yet mustered up the courage to try to fix it.
