No such thing as butting in. We appreciate everyone.

Sorry to but in on the discussion. But I had the same problem with my '74 (with
a pict 34) and I can understand your frustration. It would start and keep
running as long as I kept the RPMs up. But as soon as I tried to let it idle it
would die. I rebuilt the carb twice trying to fix it. It drove me crazy for a
couple of weeks. Then another bug nut (Mario) listened to for about 30 seconds
to confirm there weren't any air leaks (another possible cause of this
problem).
He simply said the hole in the pilot jet was too small. I thought no way, it
couldn't be that simple. But much to my surprise a buddy of mine drilled out
the
jet and walla it ran like a champ. It's been running great for a couple of
years. Can't remember the exact numbers that we drilled it out to, but it
wasn't
very much. I'm talking one bit fit freely and the next one was tight and that's
what we drilled it out to. You may have a problem finding a small enough drill
bit. My buddy is a machinist so he had the bit and drill press to do the job.

On another note, I still run old school points and I'll probably change over to
electronic, if it gives me a problem. But for now all is well and as tempting
as
it is to tinker with the ignition, the engine is running to good to mess with
it.

Good Luck,
Dave

That is one of the first things I did.  It clicked when I disconnected
and reconnected.
