Julie: Will is probably the best expert on this list. The only suggestion that I have to add is to adjust them at least every 3,000 miles (I do it every time I change oil which is at least every 3,000 miles). I don't really worry about them unless I have got one that continuously tightens up on me, like particularly the #3 exhaust, and I always adjust them to what I consider to be a "loose" .006, i.e., where the .006 feeler gauge will slip easilty through.
