i've tried that too. no joy. infact all i ever get is either first
word or letter of a line and i can't move so end up doing a say all
which isn't great when you're trying to take down a number.

Yeah, OK, well I have done that too and did it first, ages back ...
but it

still reads letter by letter when I cursor right or left across text
I've written. <HMMM!>

Are there any other conditions which would affect that setting, does
anyone know?

I sure wish I could get it to work. Incidentally, I love predictive
text with the N95, but I don't bother to do it on the 6630 because
the dictionary is so limited and I'd have to put in loads of words.
It's jolly good and quicker on the N95 though. Thanks!

Hi Carol,

No, you don't understand it right <Smile>. I was telling you how to
toggle cursor mode, though I didn't call it that. Simply press the
Talks key, then press and hold the number 2. You will hear Cursor
Mode is and whatever the next option is, Letters, Words, or original
behaviour. Nothing to do with writing texts.

All the best

Steve

Steve,

As I understand it, that command is for writing text (IE, Keyboard).
I found what I think I wanted, in Talks Settings, Advanced tab,
cursor mode but, try as I might, though my phone will tell me it's
checked, I cannot alter it so that it will work, even if I do set
the keyboard setting to words as well.

What's happening here???

I'm running the latest version, as I think you know.

Hi again Carol,

I forgot your specific question regarding reading text word by word
or letter by letter. Press the Talks key then hold down the number
2. This will toggle between Original Behaviour, Talks reads nothing
when you arrow left/right but move you to the next message, which
is what happens if Talks is not loaded. Letters, Talks will read
letter by letter when you left/right. Words, reads by word when
the arrow keys are pressed. So press Talks 2 to toggle it once,
then Talks 2 again, and so on. You can also set it in Talks
Settings to your preference.

All the best

Steve

Hi Carol,

The best way for you to learn Talks reading commands quickly is to
read Appendix A of the manual. It is a Talks function key quick
ref and has all the commands you need. That's easier than just
giving you a few.

All the best

Steve

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how to read a text I've written word by word and
also give me any other text reading commands that are useful,
please.

Thanks.
