Hi Hussein

Not overly surprised at your experiences with the X6, Nokia's first real
attempt at putting 5th Ed S60 into a device with a capacitive screen before it
was really optimised for such...... It is still optimised best for resistive
IMO so your right in choosing these two devices (although if you want to save
money you could consider the budget range such as 5230 etc)

Anyway to answer your question, my recommendation is the N97 rather than the
5800; the N97 has the benefit of a physical keyboard (which is real nice to
type on) and gives you the benefit of both worlds - touch screen and physical
keys (especially useful if you are making modifications to the device)

The N97 is very stable, I've been using it almost since it's release last year
and have seen the steady improvements in firmware changes over the period and
the current firmware is very very stable and improved. Providing you are
modding it if you buy one then you will have no problem in ensuring you can get
the latest firmware (if you were not modding then I would advise to be very
careful not to buy branded because firmware releases come very slow to branded
as you know)

N97 also has excellent battery life and is very useable - it's larger screen I
am told is very clear and even good in sunlight apparently, not sure if that
would make any difference to you though? Call quality is excellent and very
clear - if I have 1 signal bar I can still make a clear call whereas my N95 8GB
could not manage that so well,

Hope this helps and just shout if you have any further questions and I'll try
and answer them

Cheers

Pete

Hello,

I realise this is something which has probably been discussed on here many
times, but I would nevertheless appreciate some of your collective thoughts.

I would like to get myself a touch phone, however following my disastrous
and short lived relationship with the Nokia X6 i am struggling to find
anything decent amongst the touch range.

I have been thinking of choosing either the Nokia 5800 or the Nokia N97 as
these seem to have the best feature sets out of all the Nokia phones I have
looked at on the web, and also they are very amenable to having their
firmware tweaked and modified, which is something I'm definitely into. If I
were to buy either of these phones, it would probably be from eBay, at a
reduced price, so that if I should inadvertently brick the phone beyond
repair, it would not be such a major loss. However, it would also be nice
to have a touch phone that I can just play with, and it might even become my
second everyday work phone.

I note that the N97 has a higher specification camera and a larger screen,
but I would be interested to know how the two phones compare in terms of
usability, both in terms of comfort and accessibility. Also, if you have
any comments or tips for either of these phones, I would be very grateful to
receive them.

I have ordered both of these phones from Nokia on trial, however they will
not be here for several days. I would like to have at least made a
tentative decision in my mind by the time they arrive, so I can then go
ahead and finally source the phone on which I eventually decide.

Thank you in advance for your help,
