The text message pending could just be that the other person has delivery reports turned off. Your phone would then not be able to tell that your message had been delivered.

That makes sense Neil thank you as it was the case where someone tried to stop me calling a friend. He informed me that the phone number no longer belonged to the said person. I tried it and the person answered so I did not believe it then. However, I did try sending a text message to the telephone number and this remains 'pending' over 10 days later. Now I am puzzled by this how I got through by calling the number but my message is not getting through to the number. On my phone it just says new message and when I select I then know who it is from but not before that.
