That makes sense Neil thank you as it was the case where someone tried to stop
me calling a friend. He informed me that the phone number no longer belonged
to the said person. I tried it and the person answered so I did not believe it
then. However, I did try sending a text message to the telephone number and
this remains 'pending' over 10 days later. Now I am puzzled by this how I got
through by calling the number but my message is not getting through to the
number. On my phone it just says new message and when I select I then know who
it is from but not before that. Can you explain that one Neil unless it is
that in the case of a voice call it can be diverted to another number which I
know is possible.

you cannot... There is a sort of remedy but it's pretty long winded just to
get round it.
better to report the caller as nusense to your operator instead if you have
the number itself.
but you cannot physically stop one number from calling you on a mobile phone.
